The new vacancies are based at FiberLean’s Par Moor Laboratories in Cornwall, UK.  These laboratories are well equipped with state-of the-art equipment and offer the capability to process, characterise and evaluate MFC at bench through to full- scale and then to evaluate the performance of these materials in a wide range of our customers’ applications.

Scientist Role

Complete Implementation and Sales Support tasks to assist with the overall progression of FiberLean or licensee projects.

Support new product development (NPD) projects as required to progress FiberLean’s portfolio of products and applications.

Assist with laboratory duties at trials, plant commissioning’s and troubleshooting activities where necessary to ensure successful delivery of FiberLean and licensee projects.

Contribute to FiberLean and licensee projects globally, which ultimately will have significant financial outcomes for the company following successful project delivery.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities 

  • Carry-out all stages of laboratory detailed studies in support of projects within FiberLean and its licensee’s customer and NPD portfolio.
  • Report results and findings in the format of written technical reports and presentations.
  • Support the development and implementation of new test methods to characterise FiberLean products and evaluate them in various applications.
  • Support customer sample preparation, quality control testing, and dispatch activities as required.
  • Completion of assigned tasks within the timeframe agreed with relevant stakeholders.
  • Remain up-to-date on FiberLean projects by attending regular NPD/project update meetings.
  • Attendance to all FiberLean monthly EHS meetings and completion of 1 BBS visit per month (12 visits per year).
  • Occasional travel globally and working of unsociable hours (including weekends/night shift/long hours) where necessary to support FiberLean’s portfolio of Implementation and Sales Support projects.
  • To treat courteously, and with due regard to cultural and language differences, customers or FiberLean staff.
  • All work will be carried out to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and safe working practice at all times as stated by FiberLean safety initiatives.
  • All work will be carried out in accordance with the divisional Environmental Management System at all times. Other duties may reasonably be required, in line with your main duties.


Job Specifications 

Essential:

  • At least 4 GCSEs, one of which must be in a scientific subject.
  • A levels or equivalent in STEM subjects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM subject or at least 5 years experience working at graduate level in a technical/STEM setting (such as a laboratory).
  • A full UK driving licence.

 Desirable:

  • Previous laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience designing, carrying-out and reporting of laboratory trials/experiments.
  • Previous experience working in the pulp/paper/packaging industry.
  • Second language. 

Skills

  • Ability and willingness to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong time management, organisation and prioritisation skills.
  • Team player / can-do attitude.
  • Willingness to occasionally work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) in order to achieve business needs.
  • Data analysis, technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in the use of Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & SharePoint) and typing.


Working Environment

  • Capable of physical activities and lifting weights up to 10 kg (in accordance with Manual Handling requirements).
  • Spending most of the working time in the laboratory, doing physical work, and being on your feet for a significant proportion of the day. 
  • Occasional work in a noisy, wet and humid environment.
